The pilot episode
of Rugrats was made between 1989 and 1990, which was never aired on TV. However
it can be seen on the 'Decade in Diapers' video. This episode features Tommy,
Phil and Lil, Stu and Didi, Spike and Grandpa Lou (who was then called Stu
Pickles Snr.)
This was
the very first televised episode and was a double length episode. Also the
first appearence of Chuckie, Angelica, Drew, Betty, Howard and Boris and Minka.
Towards the end
of the episode right after the babies eat the dog food you see Lil lick her
lips, while Phil and the rest of the babies spit it out. Yet in the following
scene Phil says the dog food tasted good, while Lil and the rest of the babies
didn't like it.
When the Rugrats
were acting like dogs Angelica was in her party dress but when they were acting
like dogs Angelica was in her normal clothes
Stu and Didi's adress
can be seen on an invoice as '1258 N. Highland' which was the original address
of the Klasky-Csupo building
This is the first
episode where Chaz (Chuckie's dad) is featured and also the first episode
that Tommy wears his regular blue shirt instead of the red one he wore in
the pilot and the first episode.
At dinner, Didi's
napkin keeps changing color The restauraunt in
this episode is called 'Chez Ennui'. Ennui means 'boredom' in French!
This is the first
time that Reptar and the Dummi bears appear in the series.
At the end of the
episode "At The Movies" it shows the Pickles after the movie in
a light green car backed into a parking spot. In the next scene it shows them
backing out of the parking spot in a blue car.
This episode is
the first time that Drew's wife Charlotte is mentioned.
The sucking noise
Tommy makes when drinking his bottle is the same as Maggie in the Simpsons.
This is because Gabor Csupo provided the voice of Maggie when Klasky-Csupo
animated the series (1987-1992)
On the episode "Slumber
Party" when Tommy yawns after waking up from being sick he has a full
set of teeth. Yet on the episode "Weaning Tommy" we learn that Tommy
only has one tooth
When Angelica is
punching her pillow we see that her shoe's are off. But when she getting out
of bed her shoes are on
In this episode, the
twins are dressed in different clothes at the TV studio. There's a spot where
they cut to them sitting in the stroller. Notice that they are now wearing the
clothes they normally wear. After they cut back to the full scene, they are
wearing their studio clothes again. When Phil and Lil
were fighting over the lollipop: Like the second time Lil took it out of Phil's
mouth, some red stuff came out like blood or something and Lil put it in her
mouth. The director of the
commercial has two earrings, then one, then two, then one, then two, and then
one again. 
Didi's home economic's
class features students Larry and Steve who appear as reaccuring characters
in many other episodes.
We find out in this
episode that Didi works at Eucaipah High School, although the fact that she
is a teacher is only mentioned three times during the entire series.
The prize at the beauty
pagent is a boat called the Kingfisher 5000. 
Grandpa wins a radio
phone in to get the tickets to the game, the question he has to answer is: Which
ball player had the most home runs on a Tuesday for all eternity? The answer:
Bucky Majors. 
One of the thieves
is smoking a cigarette through te entire episode that never gets any smaller. When Bob and Mike
are bringing Tommy back, the grass outside the Pickle's house is pink. When Bob and Mike
leave to get Tommy milk, the stuff on the table is gone then when Tommy looks
around, the stuff is back again 
When Phil and Lil
are fighting over how to catch the moose, there is a scene where they are screaming
"hole" and "net" at each other but neither of their mouthes
are moving In a couple scenes
on the episode Chuckie can be seen with a full set of teeth, meanwhile he only
has two. When Tommy and
the twins go back in the hole to help Chuckie get out, they are covered with
mud. During several cuts back to them pushing Chuckie, they're clean, but when
they climb out of the hole, they're dirty again 
This is the first
time we learn that Tommy has teeth 
The doctor they go
to see is called Dr. Lepetomaine. 
In this episode, Chuckie
says that his mom told him babies come from the hospital. Didi also tells Stu
that Chuckie's mom and dad will pick him up in the morning. But we later learn
that Chuckie's mom died when he was really small. This is the first
time we see Didi without her glasses. 
When Tommy hides in
the mail man's bag, he looks at 'American Baby' magazine 
Reptar bars are made
of chocolate, nuts, caramel and green stuff Grandpa Lou mentions
in this episode he has a brother named Sparky 
In the beginning when
Didi, Stu, Grandpa, Tommy, and Chuckie run to the garage, Didi's 'Mud Mask'
only covers her face. But, a few seconds later, it's on her neck and the inside
of her bathrobe, too. However, in the next shot, it's only on her face. The license plate
on the Pickles' car is a Calafornia plate that says PKLS. 
At the beginning of
the episode the clock in Tommy's room has no hands. When Didi is on the
phone with Betty the hand that is on her waist is backwards. 
This episode features
Larry and Steve who were first seen in 'Little Dude'
A lobster on the
cash register rips the clerk's bowtie off. In the next scene, it's back on.
During this episode,
Reptar has white eyes instead of the usual orange
This episode is
Chaz's first major appearence and also the first time we see Angelica's cat
Fluffy.
When the dads are
shown on the couch, look closely and you'll see that there are chocolate stains
on the wall (from Tommy's bottle). But Tommy hasn't gotten his bottle yet.
Chick Hearn was
one of the commentators. In real life he is the commentator for the L.A. Lakers
This is when we
find out that Chuckie is afraid of clowns.
When Tommy says
the last lines of this episode he was wearing his "Judge's Robe".
When we do a panoramic shot of the room, he isn't wearing a robe
While the babies are
in the playpen, you can see Lil on the left side and Phil on the right side
of the playpen. In the next scene they switch spots. And then in the following
scene they return back to their original spots During the game of
Simon Says, Phil's shorts are green in one scene instead of blue 
In this episode, it's
Didi who's scared of clowns, rather than Chuckie; please note that he's smiling
while the clown came up and startled Didi. The man in the Reptar
suit, Leo, returns later in 'Reptar on Ice' 
This is the first
time Cynthia appears.
Stu needs to make
15,000 dolls for Mucklehoney Toys Near the end, we see
Tommy and Chuckie in doll clothes (and Chuckie in doll makeup) in the box where
the dolls were kept. After Stu and Didi left the room, Tommy and Chuckie climb
out of the box, wearing their normal clothes, probably without pausing to take
off the doll clothes that they were wearing
